Here is the beginning of a post I began writing at the start of 2017...
This year I decided not to buy a single new item of clothing. The only exception being any essential underwear...which I don't think you can get second hand, and if you can....ick.
My reasons are mainfold, pals, manifold...
Landfill... the streets around our flat are teeming with piles of abandoned clothes; despite the many charity shops within a 5 minute walk (never mind the clothing bank even closer). See previous post: Lonely Sole
I fear we should be more worried than we are about the environmental impact of 'throwaway' clothes.
Ethics...so...it turns out that expensive or cheap your clothes could have been made by a seven year old, paid tuppence, working in a building without fire escapes. But now I've got used to being able to buy a t-shirt for a fiver the idea of buying an ethical organic one that looks just the same for £40 is pretty painful.
Stuff...I have too much stuff. And share a tiny wardrobe. So I can't even see what I've got...which means I only actually wear the same twenty things. So really, THEORETICALLY I could just have twenty things...ha ha ha ha ha.
